Fata morgana ¤ Castles in the air ¤ Double expos $Fata morgana ¤ Castles in the air ¤ Double exposure photography Dreamscapes series 🧡 》》》》 Here I combine in double exposures skies photography superimposed with shots from an airy unfinished and deserted house I discovered while hiking. Exploring the contrast of clouds, skies, horizon organic lines with architectural arches to create these dreamy mirages like scapes… ▪︎▪︎▪︎ That led me to research the Fata Morgana phenomena, a complex form of mirage that is seen in a narrow band right above the horizon, particularly above the sea🌊 ▪︎▪︎▪︎ In calm weather, a Fata Morgana mirage is created by a layer of significantly warmer air resting over colder dense air, forming an atmospheric duct that acts like a refracting lens that produces a series of both inverted and erect images. ▪︎▪︎▪︎ Named after the Arthurian sorceress Morgan le Fay, from a belief that these mirages were fairy castles in the air or false land created by her witchcraft to lure sailors. ▪︎▪︎▪︎ These mirages/images are so seductive to our imagination; they are the source of many legends, stories, speculations and phantasmagorias. ▪︎▪︎▪︎ In Gulliver’s travels (1726), Jonathan Swifts depicted Laputa, an island city floating in the sky. Laputa levitated through the use of artificial magnetism. As if a liminal space is being unveiled, breaking through walls, opening doors and windows into other realities...
